A major tragedy struck the EMS world this week when two medical helicopters collided Sunday as they approached the same hospital in northern Arizona, leaving six people dead and critically injuring a nurse.
In addition, an explosion after the crash injured two responders with a ground ambulance company. One of the helicopters was operated by Air Methods from Englewood, Colo., and the other was from Classic Helicopters of Woods Cross, Utah.

Also this week, a 52-year-old man was killed and four other people were injured in a collision involving a private ambulance and three other vehicles in California.
The fatal incident occurred Monday on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway near Burbank Boulevard. Officials said the man was in critical condition at the scene of the crash but died at a hospital. The ambulance crew was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
