Boy Resuscitated After Collapse During Colo. Race
BOULDER, Colo. --
Medics revived a 13-year-old Bolder Boulder runner who went into cardiac arrest at the Folsom Field finish line Monday morning.
Dr. Todd Dorfman, a Boulder Community Hospital emergency physician who oversees the race’s medical coverage, told The Daily Camera.
Monday that the boy was “doing quite well.”
“He was very fortunate, frankly, for this to happen where we could respond to him within a few seconds,” Dorfman told The Camera.
Dorfman said nurses and medics near the finish line responded immediately and restarted his heart within a couple of minutes before rushing him to the heart catheterization lab at Boulder Community Hospital.
The boy was flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver in stable but serious condition to undergo further diagnosis.
There were no other serious medical issues at the race. Dorfman said 21 other patients were treated in the tent at the stadium for heat-related issues but were released. Thirteen others were treated around the course for non-serious injuries or illnesses.
