Man Updates Facebook During Pa. Cliff Rescue
FREEPORT, Pa. --
A Freeport man said he was inches away from tumbling over a steep cliff before he and his dog were rescued Monday, Jan. 31.
But after he was able to maintain a solid grip, and dial 911, he got on Facebook of course.
“Luckily I came to a stop right before the final dropoff,” Wayne Greiser told Channel 11.
Greiser spent about 90 minutes in near-freezing temperatures before volunteer firemen rappelled down the steep slope above Buffalo Creek and brought him back up the face.
Greiser was attempting to rescue his Japanese husky, who had also gotten stuck on the cliff.
“I was on my belly, feet first as soon as I hit on my right side there was a tree there I tried grabbing it and I just kept going and it like ripped my hands around it," Greiser said.
Greiser and his dog, Denali, were stuck about 20 feet apart from each other.
“He wasn't moving so I was afraid he was hurt,” Greiser said.
While he was waiting for help from the volunteer firemen in Freeport and Harrison, Greiser said he did a little social networking.
"I was just trying to keep occupied a little bit so I updated Facebook and took a picture of the rescue men down below," Greiser said.
Both Greiser and his dog were rescued without incident and neither one was hurt.
