Several Hurt In Downtown Pittsburgh Cab Crash
PITTSBURGH --
Emergency crews were near the intersection of Penn and Sixth avenues in downtown Pittsburgh after a cab driver crashed into a building.
Investigators said several people were hurt in the crash Monday afternoon. Investigators said two of the injured were listed in critical condition. Both were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
According to Pittsburgh collision investigators the driver of the Yellow Cab suffered a medical emergency.
"We were shaking. We just stood there and tried to make sure and see if anybody got hurt," said Tina Winner. "The car was coming at full speed. People were yelling, 'Get out of the way!' There was a delivery truck and my friend and I jumped up on the delivery truck."
Witnesses said several people were outside during the time of the accident because it was lunchtime.
"When he made the bend at Sixth Avenue, he went up on the curb. He never braked. He just kept going," witness Joe Baumiller said.
"All of a sudden I see a cab jump the curb five feet in front of me, hit a lady and hit the building. He then continued down and hit another male. It was crazy," said Nathan Fritz.
The president of the cab company released a statement saying, "We are still trying to get full details of the accident involving one of our cabs this afternoon in downtown Pittsburgh. Our staff will fully cooperate with Pittsburgh Police to determine exactly what happened. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved and their families."
