WEST EARL TOWNSHIP, Pa. --

A car struck a pony cart Thursday morning near Leola, Lancaster County, injuring 4 girls on the cart.

A 2-year-old girl was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She is listed in critical condition. The other girls, ages, 2, 8 and 9, were all taken by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital. They are listed as stable. All of the children are from Leola.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. near the crest of a hill along Brethren Church Road in West Earl Township just north of Route 23. Robert Culp, 84, of Ephrata, was driving south on Brethren Church Road when his Honda Civic struck the small carriage, which was also travelling south, according to West Earl Township police.

Culp was not hurt in the collission.

A witness said the children are cousins from two farms about a half mile away.

The Lancaster County district attorney's office sent a team of investigators to the scene.
