Narberth Ambulance Among Grant Winners to Support Major Sporting Events in Pennsylvania

NARBERTH, PA—Cycling enthusiasts have a new reason to love biking in the Commonwealth. The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) in Pennsylvania awarded Narberth Ambulance a $30,000 grant to support its US Cycling Ardmore Rock N’ Ride Bicycle race and live music festival. The EMS organization is one of 11 across the Commonwealth to receive support through the Sports Marketing and Tourism Program, which awarded a total of $5 million.

Narberth Ambulance is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that provides advanced prehospital emergency medical care and transportation in the communities of Lower Merion, Haverford, Narberth, West Conshohocken, Conshohocken, and Lansdowne. Established in 1944, the highly trained volunteer members and career staff at Narberth Ambulance responded to over 16,000 calls in the past year.

Its annual event, Ardmore Rock N’ Ride, is a family-friendly community bike race and music festival fundraiser to help the organization purchase a new fully equipped ambulance. Of the net benefits, 100% will go directly toward purchasing a new ambulance.

“The average cost of the ambulance is $300,000,” said Albert Davey, Narberth Ambulance executive director. “And that’s before adding the state-of-the-art equipment and advanced technology needed to provide life-saving care. That’s why fundraising is so critical.”

Narberth Ambulance is known for its cutting-edge services and staying ahead of the curve with the latest pre-hospital medical tools and technology. As a nonprofit 501(c)3 they rely heavily on donations and not tax dollars to fund its life-saving work.

“We’re truly honored and grateful to receive this grant,” said Jeanine DiTamosso, chief philanthropy officer. “Last year, we had over 90 sponsors from all over the country, and we hope to see even more support this year.”

In 2024, the Ardmore Rock N’ Ride supported 200 jobs and brought an estimated $120,000 in revenue to Montgomery County and the surrounding area. This year the Ardmore Rock N’ Ride will be held on Sunday, August 10.
