The 2024 EMS World Innovation Awards

December 2024

EMS World is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024  Innovation Awards. This award program recognizes the industry’s most pioneering products of the year that were on full display at EMS World Expo, held September 9–13 in Las Vegas.

Presented in alphabetical order, these are the products and services our judging panel deemed the most innovative developments in EMS this year. EMS World thanks our judging panel for their service: Brooke Burton, NRP, FACPE, QI/controlled substance manager for Unified Fire Authority, Salt Lake City, Utah; Amy Eisenhauer, EMT, EMS for Children Coordinator for the State of New York; Dan Gerard, MS, RN, NRP, president of the International Association of EMS Chiefs; Michael Gerber, senior editor for Health Affairs; Mark Levine, MD, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and associate medical director, St. Louis (MO) Fire Dept.; and Tracey Loscar, chief of operations, Mat-Su Borough EMS, Wasilla, Alaska.

AirLife
Broselow Tape

www.myairlife.com

For many in EMS, when it comes to sick kids, we have not known life without the Broselow Tape. Since being introduced in 1986, every few years, revisions to the tape have been made, but never like this. The Broselow Tape got revamped! New meds. New equipment. New features. You asked, we listened, and you have never seen a Broselow Tape like this!

Judges' Feedback:

The improvements made to the current version of the Broselow tape were long overdue. The addition of age ranges and vital signs at the top of the color-coded part of the tape, viewable on both sides, brings it in-line with other comparable products on the market and improves its ability to assist clinicians

CAPCE
Mobile App

www.capce.org

The CAPCE mobile app gives the user control of his or her continuing education. It is the only platform that gives the user the ability to gain and report their own continuing education credits in real time. CAPCE mobile app users are able to report CE credits in real time without waiting for CAPCE accredited education providers to report their CE course completions for them. It is the only user-controlled real-time-reporting platform that logs and credits CAPCE-accredited CE course completions.

Judges' Feedback:

This represents a transgenerational leap in ability to track your continuing education. You can instantly add your CAPCE and state approved CE.

CB Innovations
EXG

www.cboothinnovations.com

If you are frustrated by having to disentangle ECG cables then you will like the EXG—a radiolucent flexible and stretchable ECG electrode patch for 12 leads or 4 leads. It has a single connector cable that simplifies the process of getting electrodes applied quickly. Providers are more likely to place the electrodes accurately with anatomical indexing markers.

Judges' Feedback:

Great product, but connections to other monitors seemed complicated. Ease of use for proper placement though was excellent.

Echo Data Analytics
Analytics Platform

www.echodataanalytics.com

Echo Data Analytics specializes in crafting custom, affordable data visualization dashboards that empower EMS and fire organizations to gain comprehensive insights into their incident data and community response. Solutions cover a wide range of operational metrics and allow for lightning-fast performance, giving access to both standard and customized views designed to capture key metrics and data critical to measuring and improving agency performance.

Judges' Feedback:

The developers are passionate about it and are eager to work in the industry. The interface is clean and easy to use. It is web-based, has good security protocols, and the levels of filtering and view types are easy to work with.

Guardian Angel Devices
Micro Series Safety Device

www.archangeldevice.com

Building off the previous EMS Innovation Award-winning Elite Series, Guardian Angel has released the newest wearable safety device—the Micro Series. The Micro packs close to the same punch in terms of brightness and run time as the Elite, but in a much smaller form factor. The Micro is also compatible with all Guardian Angel brand magnetic mounts.

Judges' Feedback:

A smaller model from last year. Nice design and appears very sturdy.

Gaumard Scientific
UNI 3 Unified Simulator Control Software

www.gaumard.com

Introducing UNI® 3, our most advanced patient simulator control software, designed to revolutionize healthcare training. With UNI 3, you can manage vitals, track performance, and debrief with faster, easier-to-use tools. The streamlined interface powers all computer-controlled Gaumard patient simulators, ensuring seamless operation and management with minimal training.

Judges' Feedback:

It’s a nice addition and great that it’s free and can be used with older manikins. I also like that you can control the face with the software.

Intersurgical Inc.
i-Gel Plus Resus Pack

www.intersurgicalinc.com

The i-gel® Plus Resus Pack represents an advancement on the i-gel® O2 Resus Pack, incorporating the more advanced i-gel® Plus device with the following product improvements: a larger gastric channel to enhance patient safety and reduce the risk of aspiration; a new intubation ramp to optimize its use as a conduit for intubation (with fiberoptic guidance); and a longer cuff tip to enhance the esophageal seal, further improving protection against aspiration.

Judges' Feedback:

This has a slightly different design from other products that may improve airway control.

MBET Health
Miracle Bandage Plus

www.mbethealth.com

The Miracle Bandage Plus system can be applied in seconds, prevents infection, speeds healing, eliminates pain, and can be easily monitored and cleaned directly through the dressing without removing it. This revolutionary bandage can be used by EMS professionals and is available to consumers.

Judges' Feedback:

This product is unlike most on the market in the EMS space.  It would be very useful in helping with elderly skin tears during transport.

Moulage Concepts
TECC/MCI/Environmental-CAPE Program

www.moulageconcepts.com

An expansion on the 2023 CAPE program for special needs, Moulage Concepts 2024 CAPE program has grown to include interconnected training programs that bridge first responders, mental health professionals, SROs, dispatchers, and community members using communication continuity in high-performance scenarios, 3D immersive moulage, full-scale, tabletop and community plug-and-play preparedness.

Judges' Feedback:

There is a certain elegance in simplicity. This program is easily implementable and could be used in an EMS agency with 10 or 1,000 employees. I would recommend this program to everyone.

Operative IQ
Facilities Management Module

www.operativeiq.com

The Facilities Management Module addresses a critical need within the first responder industry by providing a comprehensive, centralized solution for managing multiple facilities. It consolidates essential information from lot size, door codes, and facility manager contact details to important documents such as floor plans, lease agreements, and certificates of occupancy into one platform.

Judges' Feedback:

This is awesome for medium to large services and will assist in saving time for agencies restocking and checking trucks. Small agencies may not find this useful/cost effective for a small stockroom.

Paramedic Flash
Pharmacology Cards

www.paramedicflash.com

These pharmacology study tools are finally available to anyone that needs clarity with EMS medications. Whether you’re a CCT paramedic, EMT student, or just someone who is curious about the medications that first responders use to save lives, Paramedic Flash® will help you establish a powerful foundation in EMS pharmacology.

Judges' Feedback:

Similar to nursing/medical flash cards, but for medics (not seen anything like it). Needs minor tweaks (a lot of information per card), but does come with a game so you can learn solo or in groups.

Pedi-Ed-Trics
El Pedi-Wheel

www.pedied.com

The Broselow tape is in English. The Handtevy app is in English. But what about the 486 million people around the world who speak Spanish as their native language? As 10% of EMS calls around the world involve children, there are a whole lot of EMS professionals caring for kids with pediatric “cheat sheets” that are only in English—until the introduction of El Pedi-Wheel. Pediatric vital signs, emergency equipment, medications, and more at your fingertips—”pero tambien en espanol!”

Judges' Feedback:

It is clean and easy to use, although the font is small out of necessity. It’s a good adjunct, and it is easier than a Broselow tape in some respects.

Simplicity Air Ltd.
E-BREEZE Elite

www.simplicityair.com

The E-BREEZE Elite 800V Front Mounted HVAC is an all-in-one design product developed for the specialty vehicle market and ambulance manufacturers designing and building for the evolution of commercial electric vehicles. It utilizes a dual CAN-based control system, brushless fans and blowers, and delivers an optimized energy management solution.

Judges' Feedback:

This is a heater/AC for electric ambulances. All in one unit and easy to install/take out if needing to be fixed/replaced and fits into a smaller space. Also, it uses minimal voltage to allow for operation while on a scene to keep ambulance cool/warm. This would be perfect if it was intended for all ambulances.

Technimount EMS
Techni-O2

www.technimount.com

The Techni-O2 is a groundbreaking advancement in medical oxygen transport, tailored for EMS professionals. With a double locking system and metal retainer, it protects the entire cylinder and regulator without straps, reducing damage risk and ensuring reliable operation. Offering multiple configurations, the Techni-O2 allows for versatile setups while maintaining a compact footprint.

Judges' Feedback:

As a provider the thing I hate the most is having to secure the O2 bottle and the tubing gets tangled in everything and it’s a big hassle. This secures the bottle and is easy to get the bottle in and out off to change. Optional bag for O2 supplies is great as well as multiple spots to mount the bottle.

The Mental Hygiene Project
Mental Hygiene University

www.mentalhygieneproject.com

The Mental Hygiene University is a three-session video training program that focuses on Healthy Leadership, The Science of Resilience, and The Wheel of Wellness. The courses are about an hour in length each and are packaged together to create improved resilience, composure and adaptability for EMS workers and others.

Judges' Feedback:

This program fills a much-needed gap in the protection of the mental health and resilience of EMS professionals.
