Awards & Acknowledgements

As I write this editorial message, awards season may be over in Hollywood, but it is just beginning in the EMS world.

The nomination period for the National EMS Awards of Excellence is now open. Hosted by EMS World and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, the program recognizes outstanding achievement in the EMS profession. Several nomination categories are offered, including EMT of the Year and Paid Service of the Year. Award recipients receive a monetary award, three core program registrations, plus $1,100 for travel and lodging at the EMS World Expo/NAEMT Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN, November 9–13. As you review your accomplishments to prepare your nomination, think about sharing them with your community as part of your EMS Week celebrations,  scheduled for  May 18–24. This year’s  theme is “EMS: Dedicated. For Life.”

The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians’ EMS Week Ideas site has been designed to provide practitioners with new resources and tools to help agencies celebrate their achievements.

“This year’s EMS Week provides an excellent opportunity to help our local government officials, other healthcare providers in our communities, and the public at large understand the important role of EMS in our changing healthcare system,” says NAEMT President Don Lundy.  “Learn about these changes and how to prepare yourself, your agency and your community.”
