Road to Remembrance

During EMS Week, there’s a group of providers who put on their cycling gear and ride past the donut drop at their local ED to participate in the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.

This year, riders traveled a total of 502 miles over seven days to honor EMS providers killed in the line of duty.
Riders followed two routes: the East Coast ride went through portions of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York (including New York City), New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia. The Kentucky route traveled through both Kentucky and Virginia.

The ride concluded in Alexandria, VA, on May 25, where participants were warmly greeted by members of Alexandria Fire/EMS, including a speech from Fire Chief Adam Thiel thanking the riders for both their dedication and riding in memory of Joshua Weissman, the Alexandria firefighter/paramedic who died in the line of duty on February 9.

Riders also participated in a Colorado leg of the ride from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs, June 20–22, with riders arriving in time to participate in the National EMS Memorial Service on June 22.
