New EMS Courses from the NFA

John Erich
March 2011

The National Fire Academy (NFA) has completed development of two new EMS courses.

The new courses are Emergency Medical Services Quality Management and Emergency Medical Services Functions in the Incident Command System. The first is a six-day course to be held on the campus of the National Emergency Training Center. The second lasts two days and will be conducted at the NETC or locally through partner training organizations.

The U.S. Fire Administration Reauthorization Act of 2008 directed the NFA to provide advanced EMS training, and along with the two new courses, six others are currently under development or revision.

"In recognition of the value fire service-based EMS provides American communities, the NFA is revising and improving the EMS program to meet the needs of EMS agencies," NFA Superintendent Dr. Denis Onieal said in announcing the new courses. "The EMS curriculum now offers courses specifically identified as gaps in EMS education that prepare today's EMS leaders to better manage their systems' response abilities."
