Illustrating Challenges in Geriatric Pain Management Through Case Vignettes
During an educational session at the AAPM clinical meeting, Katherine Galluzzi, DO, CMD, professor and chair, department of geriatrics, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, gave an overview of geriatric pain management, with an emphasis on clinical challenges, therapeutic options, and the importance of clear communication with patients and their caregivers. Based on her presentation, Galluzzi offers her insight on four common problems that arise when managing pain in the nursing home.
In a poster sponsored by Purdue Pharma, researchers at the AAPM clinical meeting presented the results of a post-hoc analysis of the safety and efficacy of Hysingla, an investigational single-entity, once-daily, extended-release hydrocodone bitartrate tablet.
Using EHR Data to Predict Diabetic Neuropathic Pain
At a poster session presented at the AAPM clinical meeting, Alesia Sadosky, PhD, and colleagues conducted a study to identify the patient variables that could be used to predict DPN diagnosis. Identification of these predictors, they asserted, may be useful for developing and implementing more effective management strategies to reduce the risk of DPN and improve patient outcomes.
Examining Alternative Strategies to Provide Pain Relief in Patients With Dysphagia
In a poster presented at the AAPM clinical meeting, a team of investigators from Collegium Pharmaceutical examined the potential of delivering the analgesic effect of oxycodone DETERx via modified texture foods and nasogastric (NG) and gastrostomy (G) tubes.
