Onycholemmal carcinoma, an usual cause of foot ulceration: A case report
Onycholemmal carccinoma is a subcatagory of squamous cell carcinoma . It is rare and sparsely described in literature, so it is often misdiagnosed. In this case report we present a case of a 58 year old male with who was treated for ulceration to the foot with local wound care for over 1 year with no response to treatment. After a second opinoin and biopsies, this ulcer was noted to be Onycholemmal carcinoma. Pathology confirmed extension down to the level of bone. Surgical intervention consisting of radical resection and flap closure of the deficit provided resolution of this patients condition. By presenting this case it is our hope this can further guide wound care clinicians in the work up and treatment of wounds of atypical etiology.
