An Editorial Epilogue

Dear Readers:

In the Fall of 2006, I was honored to be asked to be the third Clinical Editor of Wounds by Dr. David Rovee. I was not entirely sure what to do in that position, but with a lot of help, I figured it out fairly quickly. In my first editorial written for the January 2007 issue, I set goals for the journal that we hoped to achieve: listing in MEDLINE/PubMed, increasing the credibility of the journal among the scientific community, and increasing the number of submissions. During the past 16+ years, we have been able to achieve those goals and more. The journal continues to move forward accomplishing new things to be the go-to source for information, education, and emerging technology regarding the care of wounds. After numerous years of struggle, we were able to successfully get the journal in MEDLINE/PubMed. This gave Wounds more credibility within the scientific community and stimulated more submissions. Other advances soon followed. The addition of the online-only publication track has helped us publish more manuscripts in a timelier manner, and many enjoy taking advantage of the video additions to the website. As we had hoped, the number of submissions has greatly increased and continues to increase with each month, as has the quality of submissions. Also, to top it off, the journal has been receiving more international submissions, thus making Wounds truly an international wound journal.

Now, after 16+ years and well over 200 Editorials, I will be transitioning to Editor Emeritus of the publication. This change will bring new people to the editorial positions and to the editorial board as well. I expect that the journal will continue to move forward, opening new doors to education and information, and presenting the newest and best information for all those caring for patients with wounds. I know new developments can cause uncertainty and anxiety even among the strongest, but as Alfred Lord Tennyson said, “The old order changeth, yielding place to new.” I trust everyone involved will work to make the new order not just new but better.

I want to thank Jaclyn Gaydos, Kelsey Kaustinen, and all of the staff editors over the years; the Members of the Editorial Board; the peer reviewers; everyone at HMP involved with Wounds; and you, the readers, for all you have done to help keep the journal moving forward during my time. I would be remiss in not also thanking my wife for her patience with my reviewing manuscripts at all hours of the night, her expert editorial comments about all the 200+ editorials that I have written, and her help with many details associated with my job with Wounds.
