Embracing Change

August 2016
1044-7946

Dear Readers:

There are many quotations about change, and songs have been written about it. For better or for worse, change is a part of everyday life. I can assure you that as you get older you will realize that change cannot be stopped despite our best efforts. It has been said that babies with wet diapers are the only ones that like change; however, there are exceptions, as when people look forward to a job change or changing where they live. Change is essential when there is growth of an organization or company, and our journal is no exception. With the acceptance of the journal to be indexed in PubMed, there has been significant growth of the journal and its management. As a result, many things are changing.

We are pleased that the number of manuscript submissions has doubled in the past year and a half. Many who wish to have their papers published in an indexed publication are now submitting their manuscripts to Wounds. You, our readers, benefit from this change in that there are more quality manuscripts from which to choose for publication. Because there are more manuscripts to consider, we have had to add more people to our Editorial Advisory Board to be able to manage the influx. The work done by those reviewing manuscripts for us is monumental, but with more reviewers, the workload for each reviewer should be manageable. We continue to look for qualified reviewers. Would you be interested? If so, please contact our managing editor.

As most know, the journal may be accessed at www.woundsresearch.com. Not only are current manuscripts online, but the archives are available as well to make it easier to catch up on the articles previously published and to make research easier. To improve that online offering and release the latest research so our audience may benefit from these findings sooner, beginning this month, readers will have access to 3 Original Research articles 3 months ahead of print publication. The 3 manuscripts published online August 15 will appear in the November print edition of the journal. This will continue each month. These original manuscripts are in addition to our Online Exclusive manuscripts which already appear on the website each month.

In addition to our print content, we are exploring the addition of video content to the website. We have established a new department for the journal to manage this new undertaking. This will give anyone (this means you) interested in making a short clinical case presentation video and submitting it for publication on the website, the upcoming Wounds YouTube channel, and social media a chance to participate in this educational venture. Instructions for how you can be a video “star” on the Wounds website will be available shortly on the website and in the journal. Anyone with a modern cell phone can make a video. We hope you will take the time to submit a 2-5 minute video with your clinical experiences so that we can learn from each other.

These are exciting changes coming to our journal and we hope they will be of interest and benefit to you. Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change…” We hope these changes will be considered an improvement to the journal.
