An Innovative Ultrasonic Surgical Debridement System in Surgical Wound Bed Preparation and Other Novel Applications
Chronic wounds plateau due to multifactorial reasons which ultimately lead to a dysfunctional, stalled inflammatory response with delayed or chronic nonhealing. The keys to restarting the healing process are destruction of biofilm, appropriate debridement, control of wound moisture level, neovascularization, and resetting the inflammatory cascade with promotion of growth factors.
A single surgeon gives their two-year “nut-and-bolts” experience with the product for excisional debridement and/or growth stimulation of a variety of wounds due to surgery, pressure, infection, radiation, autoimmune disease, diabetes, or poor vascularization. The use of an innovative ultrasonic surgical debridement system provides the standard of care in addition to novel benefits of biofilm destruction in 10 seconds, decreased blood loss, decreased pain, and increased stimulation of growth factors. It has expanded uses, including tunneling wounds and bone trephination. The ultrasonic technology selectively removes all nonviable tissue while safely preserving healthy structures, thus rendering it extremely safe in the hands of trainees.
The ultrasonic surgical debridement system was effectively utilized in a multitude of wound bed debridements, including necrotizing fasciitis cases with successful safe and selective debridement of blood vessels, tendon, bone, and rectal wall. Novel uses include bone trephination for perfusion and debridement of tunneling and undermining. It has also been used in hidradenitis suppurativa with preservation of all viable tissue due to a novel tunneling head. The system was utilized in outpatient wound bed preparations with minimal pain and blood loss.
This innovative ultrasonic surgical debridement system is a safe and effective means of providing surgical wound bed preparation with destruction of biofilm and preservation of all viable tissue. It is easy to operate, safe in any hands—which makes it ideal for training institutions—and may be used in a wide variety of applications.
