Susan took pressure injury risk head on and developed a new assessment scale (“Scott Triggers”) to help alert clinicians to the potential for pressure issues. She also realized the value of taking universal precautions, implementing use (for example) of protective support surfaces. Her no-nonsense approach is driving down pressure injury rates and saving patients, providers, and health care systems the time, pain, and expense of dealing with pressure injury.
