Product Name: ACTIGRAFT

Company: REDDRESS MEDICAL

Website: REDDRESSMEDICAL.COM

ActigraftActiGraft is an FDA-cleared wound care solution that enables health care providers to produce—in real time—in vitro blood clots from a patient’s whole blood. Once applied, the blood clot tissue serves as a protective covering and supports wound healing processes that naturally occur in the body. Testimonial: “I endorse ActiGraft as it uses the body’s own healing cascade to help initiate the wound healing process and has a unique role as a topical dressing in the wound care space.” —Dr. Bryan Doner, DO, D&P Medical Group

Product name: EPIC’S HAIKU APPLICATION ADD-ON

Company: EPIC SYSTEMS CORPORATION

Website: EPIC.COM

Epic HaikuTeams can expand Epic’s functionality by using mobile devices and program add-ons. Epic’s Haiku application streamlines workflows and enables clinicians to document a patient’s condition in real-time. A 620-bed academic hospital center used Epic’s Haiku to capture pressure injuries (PI) present on admission and their accurate anatomical location. Identifying PIs present on admission, also known as community-acquired pressure injuries (CAPIs), improves patient care by helping teams efficiently allocate scarce resources. An institution’s ability to differentiate CAPI from hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) impacts quality improvement initiatives, liability, and reimbursement. Furthermore, the application streamlined the organization’s incident reporting system by helping with the timely identification of HAPIs and autopopulating required fields, reducing nursing documentation time.

Testimonial: Epic’s Haiku reduced incident reporting documentation nursing hours by over 2000 hours per year.1 The system also increased the prompt and accurate identification of PIs from 30% to 90%, improving the compliance of identifying PIs present on admission.1,2 Another significant result was the identification of 210 multi-visit patients (MVPs),1 thus allowing the organization use a multidisciplinary approach, with links to community resources, to improve the health of these vulnerable individuals.

Product name: EXPEDITE

Company: MEDTRITION

Website: WWW.MEDTRITION.COM/PRODUCT/EXPEDITE/

MedtritionExpedite is a nutrition product to support wound healing. What makes it unique is that is a small, 2-ounce serving size only once per day. Many of the previous products required the patient to drink 8 to 10 ounces twice per day making adherence with the nutritional care plan difficult. Expedite contains L-citrulline and collagen dipeptides, which stimulate fibroblast activity. L-citrulline has been suggested as a more efficient alternate to raise plasma levels of nitric oxide (NO). Citrulline is first converted to arginine in the bloodstream and then to NO in the cells. Expedite has 30 times the dipeptides as regular collagen. It is available in a peach-mango flavor.

Product name: KERECIS OMEGA3 MARIGEN

Company: KERECIS

Website: WWW.KERECIS.COM

KermisKerecis is a skin substitute from Icelandic cod fish. Kerecis has wound, burn and soft tissue reinforcement indications, ranging from head to toe for full-thickness and partial-thickness wounds. Due to Kerecis’ gentle processing, the product can maintain its 3D structure with similar porosity as human dermis. This allows for faster incorporation and more rapid cellular ingrowth. Kerecis has many other benefits including bacterial static properties, hemostatic properties, reduction in pain, natural collagens, laminins and specifically, omega-3s. Omega-3s have been shown in clinical evidence to help regulate inflammation, therefore aiding through the inflammatory stage in the wound healing cascade. Kerecis has over 30 publications; including level 1 evidence. Some of Kerecis’ level 1 evidence includes better efficacy versus standard of care, porcine grafts, and amnion/chorion grafts. Kerecis has also been shown to be more cost-effective, with variations of sizes and micrografts to aid in patient care.

Testimonial: “I was skeptical about another collagen product, especially a ‘fish product,’ being marketed to the clinic. I found the product to be sturdy, with good adherence following wound bed preparation. I utilized the powder and sheet; both grafts were easy to apply with better-than-expected performance. Resolution in 6 weeks post initiation of fish grafting.”—Nancy Chatham  ANP-BC, CCNS, CWOCN-AP, CLT

Product name: LS2

Company: WEARSENSE LLC

Website: WEAR-SENSE.COM

LS2A physician treating lymphedema and bioengineer with over 25 years of experience invented the WearSense LS 2, a lymphedema garment wearable pressure sensor. With over 100 years’ experience in electrical engineering, hardware, software, and cloud design, the team at WearSense has made this garment pressure sensor easy to use. The WearSense LS2 has a familiar and practical pressure gauge interface which is transparent and monitored via Bluetooth on any mobile device, computer, or remote monitoring via internet. The sensor accurately tracks pressure throughout the life of the garment at a low error rate. It works through the garment and can be wirelessly recharged. The WearSense LS2 is rugged, small, and thin, with its components hermetically sealed and water resistant. The WearSense family of products can be considered for any application where compression needs to be monitored.

Testimonial: “We conducted a multi-center, single-blinded RCT in critically ill patients to evaluate the efficacy of the Prevalon boot in preventing heel pressure injuries. Results of the RCT revealed that the odds of a pressure injury in patients who used the Prevalon boot was 11 times less likely than patients who did not use the boot; the pressure injuries were also more severe. We found the boot easy to apply and completely off-loaded patients’ heels.”Barakat Johnson M, Lai M, Stephenson J, et al.
