Nothing Succeeds Like Success

  Ostomy Wound Management congratulates the the 2008 World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) Congress Lifetime Achievement honorees. Their contributions to the advancement of wound management underscore their passion for their scope of practice.

  Barbara J. Braden, PhD, FAAN. Dean of University College at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb, Dr. Braden is best known for her work in the development of the Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Sore Risk, now available in 20 languages.   Rob Burrell, BSc, MSc, PhD. Dr. Burrell is a Canada Research Chair in Nanostructured Biomaterials, Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, and Professor and Chair of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He established a program for the development of advanced nanomaterials for biomedical applications and developed the world’s first commercially successful therapeutic application of nanotechnology.

  George W. Cherry, MA, DPhil (Oxon). Dr. Cherry ran the Wound Healing Programme in the Oxford Department of Dermatology, where the major emphasis has been the evaluation of the treatment of leg ulcers and other chronic wounds, both in the hospital and the community. He is active in several international organizations.

  Kelman Cohen, MD. Dr. Cohen founded the Division of Plastic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Va). He built the first clinical wound healing center in the US and an active Research Program with two colleagues. Dr. Cohen was also the founding President of the Wound Healing Foundation.

  William Eaglstein, MD. Dr. Eaglstein is Vice President of Global Medical Sciences of Stiefel Laboratories, Inc., and Chairman Emeritus, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. For more than 30 years, Dr. Eaglstein has made key contributions to wound healing and chronic wounds.

  Evonne Fowler, RN, CNS, CWON. Evonne is the Ostomy/Wound Care Specialist at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital (Banning, Calif). A founding board member and the first President of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, she is also Co-chairperson for the Symposium of Advanced Wound Care and an emeritus member of the Editorial Board of Ostomy Wound Management.

  Finn Gottrup, MD, DMSci. A professor and consultant at Copenhagen Wound Healing Center (Copenhagen, Denmark), Dr. Gottrup is a specialist in anatomy, general surgery, and surgical gastroenterology. He is a member of several national and international organizations, boards, committees, and editorial boards.

  Thomas Hunt, MD, DMHC (Lud hon). Dr. Hunt is a Professor Emeritus of surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He has authored more than 450 articles that largely focus on wound healing and was founding President of the Wound Healing Society.

  Donalyn Hyland, RN. Donalyn is an executive healthcare professional with extensive healthcare management and clinical nursing experience. She has held responsibilities for wound and ostomy global medical communications, publications, medical marketing, and clinical education with ConvaTec, Bristol Myers Squibb (Princeton, NJ).

  Kent Jonsson, MD, PhD. Dr. Jonsson is Professor of Surgery at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare. His research has been dedicated to the healing of intestinal anastomoses. He also is responsible for the postgraduate training of surgeons in Zimbabwe.

  Wilhelm Jung, MSc, PhD. Dr. Jung has worked in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry for more than 25 years, most dedicated to wound healing. A member of various wound healing societies, he helped found the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and was instrumental in establishing the concept of wound bed preparation.

  David Keast, BSc, MSc, Dip Ed, MD, CCFP, FCFP. Dr. Keast is the Medical Director of the Outpatient Chronic Wound Management Clinic at Parkwood Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Care (London, Ontario). He serves as Co-Director of the International Interprofessional Wound Care Course at the University of Toronto and is a founding board member of the Canadian Association of Wound Care.

  Christine Moffatt, CBE, FRCN, PhD, MA, RGN DN. Dr. Moffatt is a Professor of Nursing at Thames Valley University (London) and a Director of the Centre for Research and Implementation of Clinical Practice. She runs the International Lymphoedema Framework Project and is President of the Leg Ulcer Forum.

  Takehiko Ohura, MD, PhD. Dr. Ohura is Professor Emeritus of Plastic Surgery at Hokkaido University and President of the Pressure Ulcer and Wound Healing Research Center (Kojin-kai). He is influential in many Japanese and international surgical and wound healing-related societies and has a specific interest in pressure ulcers and burns.

  Hugo Partsch, MD. Dr. Partsch is the Co-Editor of VASA, Journal for Vascular Diseases. A former Professor of Dermatology at the University of Vienna and the former Head of the Dermatological Department at the Wilhelminen-Hospital (Vienna), he has published more than 360 papers in scientific medical journals and contributed to books.

  Chris Roberts, PhD, MBA. Dr. Roberts is Vice President of Global Clinical Research for Smith & Nephew Wound Management. He has taken a specialist role in ensuring clinical and scientific evidence is understood and aligned appropriately.

  Martin C. Robson, MD. A Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Director of the Institute for Tissue Regeneration, Repair, and Rehabilitation, Dr. Robson was a Founding Member and former President of the Wound Healing Society. He has authored more than 600 publications.

  Terence Ryan, DM, FRCP. Dr. Ryan is a dermatologist with an interest in the needs of the developing world, focusing on allied health professionals who provide skin care. A member of several international societies, Dr. Ryan will publish his 600th paper this year.

  Vijay Shukla, MBBS, MS, MCh. Professor Shukla is Professor of Surgery at Banaras Hindu University (India). Influential in many Indian and international surgical and wound healing-related societies, he was the founding secretary of the Indian Society of Wound Management.

  Thomas P. Stewart, PhD. Dr. Stewart is President and Chief Clinical Officer of Gaymar Industries (Orchard Park, NY). He plays a key role in the medical aspects of product design and holds several patents. In 1987, he founded the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) and currently serves as an Editorial Advisory Board member and Department Editor for the journal WOUNDS.

  Carrie Sussman, PT, DPT. Dr. Sussman is President of Sussman Physical Therapy, Inc. and Wound Care Management Services (Torrance, Calif). She is Physical Therapy Director of the Association for Advancement of Wound Care, an alumni member and former Vice President of NPUAP Board of Directors, and co-editor of the textbook, Wound Care: A Collaborative Practice Manual for Health Care Professionals.

  Geoff Sussman, OAM, JP, FPS, FACP, FAWMA. Dr. Sussman has been an educator, researcher, and clinician for more than 30 years. He was instrumental in establishing the Wound Foundation of Australia and the formation of the Australian Wound Management Association. Together with Professor Michael Stacey he formed the World Union of Wound Healing Societies in 2000 where he continues to serve.

  Robert Warriner, III, MD, FACA, FCCP, ABPM/UHM, FCCWS. Dr. Warriner founded the Southeast Texas Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Conroe Regional Medical Center (Conroe, Tex) in 1991. In 2003, he became the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs of Diversified Clinical Services (Jacksonville, Fla). An active member of the Wound Healing Society, he has authored numerous publications and is interested in international healthcare. - OWM
