Convex skin barrier molds and shapes to the size of stoma

ConvaTec (Princeton, NJ) now offers SUR-FIT® Durahesive® Moldable Convex Skin Barrier. The flange allows the skin barrier/wafer opening to be molded to the shape and size of the stoma without the assistance of scissors. The moldable barrier must be used with SUR-FIT Natura® pouches.

The barrier is ideal for urostomates, ileostomates, and colostomates with difficult stoma pouching situations such as retracted or flushed stoma that may be located within skin folds or creases.

New silver dressing contains adhesive technology

Molnlycke Health Care US, LLC (Norcross, GA), one of the world’s leading providers of wound care solutions introduces Mepilex® Ag, the first silver dressing made with Safetac® technology. This dressing combines the exudate management properties of Mepilex® and Safetac® soft silicone adhesive technology with a silver compound.

Mepilex® Ag dressing delivers effective release of silver and rapid onset of antimicrobial action. The dressing begins killing pathogens found in wounds within 30 minutes and offers sustained effect on the pathogens up to 7 days.

Safetac® is a patented soft silicone adhesive technology that offers atraumatic application and removal of the product. Dressings containing this technology minimize trauma to the wound and prevent maceration by sealing around the surrounding skin of the wound.

The dressing is intended for the management of exudating wounds such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, donor sites, and partial-thickness burns.

Liquid protein effectively heals wounds

ND Labs Inc., (Great Neck, NY) introduces LPS 15/30™. This is a complete hydrolyzed liquid protein made from the highest quality protein sources – collagen and casein. Each ounce contains 15 g of enzymatically pre-digested protein.

This protein effectively helps heal wounds and decubiti ulcers, corrects protein malnutrition (hypo-albuminia as with renal disease), and facilitates recovery from bariatric surgery.

Hydrofiber technology in adhesive dressings heals wounds more gently

Versiva® is one of Convatec’s (Princeton, NJ) latest premium foam composite dressings that synergistically combines foam with Hydrofiber® technology to reduce the common shortcomings of traditional foam dressings, such as lack of fluid retention, high risk of maceration due to over-saturation of the wound bed, and inability to maintain an optimally moist wound environment.

This dressing supports wound healing with an optimal moisture balance and is designed to remove more gently and with less trauma to the wound after a maximum wear time of 7 days

New atraumatic and superabsorbent foam dressing minimizes wound fluid

Medline Industries, Inc. (Mundelein, IL) introduces Gentleheal – an atraumatic and superabsorbent foam dressing. The dressing’s special hydrophobic contact layer is gentle to the periwound skin and minimizes the risk of wound fluid forming between the dressing and the skin.

Through Exulock technology, channels of super-absorbant polymer actively draw wound fluid vertically away from the wound and “lock” the fluid in the back of the dressing.

The dressing offers super-absorbancy for extra heavy exuding wounds as well as extra flexibility for wound sites where conformability is needed.

Wound dressing contains antibacterial agent

MedWrap Corp (Amherst, NY) presents Island Wound Dressing with Microban, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. The dressing, which does not contain latex, establishes a barrier that protects against bacteria such as MRSA without cytotoxicity, skin discoloration, or leaching of pharmaceuticals into the open wound.

The dressing creates and maintains a moist environment while preventing strike-through – protecting healthcare personnel and other patients.
