Next generation therapy system reaps early success

  Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (San Antonio, TX) announced favorable results from initial customer placements of its next generation V.A.C.® Therapy System, InfoV.A.C.®

  The new system’s enhancements were largely based on “voice of the customer” input from patients and caregivers. Customers evaluated the therapy’s enhanced capabilities that include easy-to-use operating features designed to simplify training and enhance patient cooperation.

Acquisition expands skin and wound care product offering

  3M (St. Paul, MN) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Neoplast Co. Ltd., (Bangkok, Thailand) a manufacturer and distributor of surgical tapes and dressings and first aid bandages for professional and consumer markets across the Asia Pacific region. The acquisition will expand the company’s global manufacturing capabilities, allowing 3M to better address emerging needs throughout the market.

Companies leverage global success of wound-healing honey

  Derma Sciences, Inc. (Princeton, NJ) recently announced that in a joint effort with partner Comvita New Zealand, Ltd (Te Puke, New Zealand) the brand name of their honey-based product line will be changed to MEDIHONEY™. Both companies previously intended to market the products under the API-MED™ brand. The MEDIHONEY™ brand is an asset Comvita acquired through its recent purchase of Medihoney-Pty Ltd.

Diabetic foot ulcer treatment receives approval

  SANUWAVE, Inc. (Alpharetta, GA) received conditional approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate a multicenter, prospective, randomized clinical trial utilizing its dermaPACE™ device for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.

  The device produces stresses at a cellular level that lead to an immediate increase in microcirculation and signal the cellular release of specific proteins. These proteins include angiogenic growth factors that support neovascularization.
