AAWC Update

AAWC Pays Tribute to Members

Whether involved for many years or just joining today, AAWC members are not ordinary wound care professionals; they are part of a special community that invests in career development and maintains an acute awareness of growth within the wound care industry.   For this month’s news, we’d like to recognize several noteworthy members for their contributions to the Association, as well as thank all members for their continued support.

Annual AAWC Distinguished Member Awards Given at SAWC Spring

The AAWC is proud to have honored three members at the AAWC Membership Meeting held in conjunction with SAWC Spring on April 20, 2012. Cathy Milne, APRN, MSN, CWOCN; Valerie Sullivan, PT, MS, CWS; and Allen Sawyer, PT, were awarded the AAWC Distinguished Member Award for their work on the AAWC Quality of Care Task Force. We also acknowledge Tim Paine, PT, FCCWS, a Co-Chair of the AAWC Quality of Care Task Force. He was instrumental in the development of the Wound Care Glossary; however, he had been awarded this honor already in 2006.

This entire team has volunteered for the past 10 years, defining quality wound care and developing the first international, multidiscipline, and multi-association-validated wound care glossary. These dedicated members are continuing their work by cross-validating the AAWC photo discs with the AAWC wound care glossary.

This team defines collaboration and is the picture of what interdisciplinary cooperation can accomplish. Each member provides a unique perspective during discussions, with the only intent being to provide the highest quality work product. Discussions are focused, respectful, and productive. Suggestions and corrections are frequent, and the outcome is always better after the team reviews and revises. These members are a pleasure and a treasure for those of us fortunate enough to know and work with them. Congratulations to the entire task force for a job well done!
