AAWC Update

AAWC adopts new mission statement

The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) has adopted a new mission statement: “To be the leader in interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation.”

The AAWC Board of Directors’ recent strategic planning session determined it was time for the Association to develop and adopt a new, streamlined mission statement. “The original mission statement, developed in 1995, was a bit cumbersome and did not convey the AAWC’s intended core purpose in a clear and concise way,” says Terry Treadwell, MD, FACS, and AAWC President. “We believe the new statement, which was adopted by a majority vote of the membership, adequately conveys our organization’s current reason for existing in one simple yet powerful phrase. We intend to see this mission fulfilled.”   AAWC Executive Director Tina Thomas added, “The AAWC believes in building and educating a collaborative wound care community and that includes promoting an equal partnership among all who are involved in the treatment and healing of wounds, including the patients themselves. This is the only true way to be the leading organization in the wound care field, because optimal treatment results from the expertise of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers. It also is important for patients and their lay-caregivers to take a proactive role in the learning and wound healing process.”

AAWC and the Walk for Wellness

The AAWC and ConvaTec are asking you to put your best foot forward by counting your steps at the SAWC Spring conference, April 14–17, to raise funds for the AAWC Global Volunteers program. As the sponsor of the SAWC Walk for Wellness, ConvaTec will donate up to $10,000 to the AAWC Global Alliance Program. Every step logged will help drive the amount of the donation.

Participating in the SAWC Walk for Wellness is a great opportunity for you to get a little exercise while connecting with AAWC members and other wound care professionals from all over the world. Reap your own health benefits while you help drive support for the premier multidisciplinary wound care association — AAWC — the leader in interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation.

Do it for you and help make a difference around the world. You’ll feel good in so many ways for having participated.

For more information, look for the SAWC Walk for Wellness registration counter outside Hall D on the Exhibit Hall level of the Gaylord Texan Convention Center. Be sure to include this in your personal schedule of the many SAWC events offered.
