Autologous blood clot product FDA cleared

RedDress Ltd (Pardes-Hanna, Israel) announced that its RD1 system received United States Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance to be marketed in the US. The autologous blood clot product system is intended for use at point-of-care for the safe and rapid preparation of a whole blood clot from a small sample of a patient’s peripheral blood. This product can be topically applied for the management of exuding cutaneous wounds and mechanically or surgically debrided wounds.

Study finds fish skin heals wounds faster than allograft

A recent clinical study found that wounds treated with Omega3 Wound from Kerecis (Arlington, VA) healed significantly faster than wounds treated with a human amniotic membrane allograft. The results were unveiled at the annual American Podiatric Medical Association meeting in July 2018. Each of the patients in the 85-participant study had two 4-mm wounds, one of which was treated with the fish skin product and the other with the allograft. The study found the fish skin product promoted faster wound healing and that more fish skin-treated wounds achieved closure than the allograft-treated wounds.

Large wound negative pressure therapy launched

KCI, an Acelity Company (San Antonio, TX), launched the new V.A.C. VERAFLO CLEANSE CHOICE Large Dressing, designed for use with V.A.C. VERAFLO Therapy, to clean larger wounds with thick, fibrous exudate and slough. The dressing also can be used on patients when surgical debridement must be delayed or is not possible or appropriate. Open abdomen dressing now available

KCI, an Acelity Company (San Antonio, TX), launched ABTHERA ADVANCE Open Abdomen Dressing for the United States market. The dressing is a temporary abdominal closure device that uses the technology of the ABTHERA Open Abdomen Negative Pressure Therapy to bridge abdominal wall openings where primary closure is not possible. In addition, it allows for repeat abdominal entries as necessary. Ultrasonic debridement shows superior outcomes

Misonix, Inc (Farmingdale, NY), announced the results of a new randomized controlled trial featuring its SonicOne ultrasonic debridement device.
