WOUNDS Indexed With MEDLINE
HMP Communications Holdings, LLC (HMP) (Malvern, PA) announced the journal WOUNDS: A Compendium of Clinical Research and Practice is now indexed in the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) MEDLINE® database. This online bibliographic citation database is used internationally to provide access to the world’s biomedical journal literature.
Indexing was achieved following a rigorous application process during which WOUNDS was reviewed by the NLM’s Literature Selection Technical Review Committee (LSTRC), which meets 3 times a year. At each meeting, the LSTRC reviews approximately 190 titles, 20% to 25% of which are selected for indexing.
With indexed content on MEDLINE, WOUNDS joins more than 24 million citations for biomedical literature, life science journals, and online books.
OWM congratulates the Publisher and Editors of our sister journal on this noteworthy achievement.

Wearable Biosensors for Obesity, Diabetes Developed
The Mayo Clinic (Minneapolis, MN) teamed with skin patch maker Gentag (Washington, DC) to develop next-generation wearable biosensors aimed at fighting obesity and diabetes.
The wireless and disposable wearable patch sensors are the size of a small bandage and painless apply and remove. The sensor communicates with a cell phone-compatible diabetes management system that allows researchers to monitor movement and develop treatments for the 2 conditions.
Gentag and the Mayo Clinic hope the technology will be a game-changer in helping reduce global obesity and diabetes. The patches are accurate, inexpensive, and easily integrated into patient care. The partners plan to license the technology to third parties. A joint intellectual property agreement facilitated research and development of the tool.

Antimicrobial Fabric Reduces Pressure Ulcers
St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center (Pueblo, CO) announced results from a clinical trial evaluating a fabric technology at the hospital and its impact on improving patient care.
DermaTherapy® (a product of Precision Fabrics Group, Inc, Greensboro, NC) is a synthetic silk-like fabric system of antimicrobial bed linens and patient apparel that are cleaner, drier, and smoother than conventional cotton textiles. Products include bed linens (fitted and flat sheets, pillow cases, and bed pads) and gowns. The smooth fabric prevents the skin from sticking to it and prevents shear injuries, facilitating ease-of-movement in bed.
The study was commissioned after facility clinicians learned about the linen technology at an Association of Managers of Innovation (AMI) conference in the fall of 2012. The control phase of the study ran for 4 months before the new technology was implemented in April 2013. The DermaTherapy phase of the study covered a 9-month period and included a total of 3,179 patients. The study demonstrated a significant reduction in the number of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, improved the treatment of existing wounds, and reduced bioburden and air contaminates and raised standards of care, all while improving patient comfort. More information is available at: www.stmarycorwin.org.
To further inform clinicians about this product line, Cone Health (Greensboro, NC) is offering a 1-day comprehensive educational seminar for health care providers to learn behind-the-scenes details of research, testing, and results after system conversion to this therapeutic linen. Attendees of the April 22, 2015 DermaTherapy Academy can this technology in action and explore Cone Health’s experience.
The 1-day educational academy is free, but attendance is limited. For more information and to register, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/dermatherapy-academy-registration-15953095137.
