SAWC Early Bird rate expires soon

The deadline for early-bird registration rates for the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC Spring), taking place in Atlanta, GA, April 13 – 17, 2016 is Saturday, February 27, 2016. AAWC Members can register at the early bird rate, as low as $336. 

AAWC membership meeting

The Spring AAWC Membership Meeting will take place during the SAWC on April 15. Join members for an informative, networking event that will include complimentary food and beverages as well as updates from AAWC President Dr. Vickie R. Driver on various Association activities. SAWC nursing and physician scholarships

The AAWC selects Association members for the SAWC Nursing and Physician Scholarships. The scholarships provide members with complimentary conference registration (a $500 value) and recognition during the SAWC Scholarship Ceremony. Congratulations to the following 2016 SAWC Spring Scholarship Winners: Audrey Moyer-Harris, MBA, BSN, RN, CWCN (nursing) and Latricia Allen, DPM, MPH (physician). If you are interested in receiving a free registration to SAWC Fall in October 7–9, 2016, in Las Vegas, please visit the AAWC website’s homepage in late May for a brief, easy-to-complete scholarship application.

AAWC 2016 Board of Directors election update 

Elections for the 2016 AAWC Board of Directors were held online from January 19 through February 9. All current and newly elected board members will attend the Annual Spring Board of Directors Meeting on April 13 and will officially take office at the Annual Spring AAWC Membership Meeting on April 15; both meetings are held in conjunction with SAWC Spring. The newly elected board members also will be announced in the May issue of OWM and the next AAWC Network Newsletter.

Annual Recruit a Member drawing

When a current member recruits a new member, both participants are entered into a drawing to receive a free membership renewal. Andrea Ariza, RN, BSN, and Argelia Welber, RN, BSN, CWOCN are the 2015 Recruit a Member raffle winners. The recruitment program is open all year. 2015 AAWC Scholarship Program Winners

The following members were selected by the AAWC Scholarship Committee in 2015 based on the guideline requirements: 

Pamela Cole, MSPT, CWS received an Exchange/Travel Award in the amount of $1,074.00. Ms. Cole will use this award to continue to execute a plan she devised with her medical director and nurse in charge of wound care education in order to develop interventions in Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Deschapelles, Haiti.

Samantha Kuplicki, BSN, RN, CWS, CWCN, CFCN was honored with a Learning Award in the amount of $2,000.00. Ms. Kuplicki has a long history of wound care experience and involvement with the patient population she will continue to serve after earning her MSN.   

Carmen Oguz, PT, DPT, MBA, CWS, WCC, DAPWCA received an Exchange/Travel Award in the amount of $3,000.00. Carmen had a volunteer assignment with Health Volunteers Overseas in St. Lucia. 

Jeffrey Jensen, DPM, FACFAS received the Robert A. Warriner III, MD Memorial Award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward educational pursuits related to diabetic foot or another related aspect of wound care. Dr. Jensen is currently the Senior Director of Research at the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. In the spirit of giving back, Dr. Jensen and his wife sponsor an annual research award of $5,000 in the name of the late Dr. Warriner at Barry University. The research focuses on neuropathy in diabetes as well as wound care.
