2016 Robert A. Warriner III, MD Memorial Award recipients

The AAWC is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious Robert A. Warriner III, MD Memorial Award for 2016. The winners of this award honor the ethics, character, and commitment to wound care of the late Dr. Warriner; they are Robert J. Snyder, DPM, MSc, CWS, and Marissa J. Carter, PhD. Each was awarded $1000 and will be recognized at the AAWC Membership Meeting at SAWC Spring in San Diego, CA on April 7, 2017.

Dr. Snyder, Professor and Director of Clinical Research and Fellowship Director in wound care and research at Barry University, was a dear friend and colleague of the late Dr. Warriner. Dr. Snyder created and implemented the first post residency Wound Management and Research Fellowship for podiatric medical schools, published several book chapters and more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed and trade journals on wound care, and served as Principal Investigator on more than 50 randomized controlled trials for innovative wound healing modalities and products. In addition, he has served on the AAWC Board of Directors for several years in the past, including as President.

Dr. Carter has published many articles on the topic of wound care and related fields such as infectious disease. She has developed new methods for evidence-based literature review, crafted wound care clinical practice guidelines, worked with the AAWC to revise the United States Food and Drug Administration guidelines for wound care research, and is a leading expert in the use of large wound care databases for clinical research. Dr. Carter collaborated closely with Dr. Warriner and facilitated much of his research. They published several papers together.
