AAWC Board of Directors election results 

The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) announced the 2016 AAWC Board of Directors election results at the AAWC Membership Meeting held at SAWC Spring in Atlanta, GA. aawc

Greg Bohn, MD, FACS, ABPM/UHM, CWSP, FACHM was officially welcomed as the new AAWC President. Newly and re-elected board members include President-Elect: Thomas Serena, MD, FACS; Treasurer: Tim Paine, PT; Consumer: Karen Bauer, NP-C, CWS, CHRN; Member-at-Large: Mary Haddow, RN, CWCN; and Nurse: Kara Couch, MS, CRNP, CWS. Hollie Mangrum, PT, DPT, CWS was re-elected to a second term as Physical Therapist.

Continuing their terms through 2017 are Secretary: Barbara M. Bates-Jensen PhD, RN, FAAN; Nurse: Ruth Bryant, PhD(c), MS, RN, CWOCN; Research: Linda Cowan, PhD, ARNP, FNP-BC, CWS; Physician: Caroline Fife, MD, CWS, FUHM; Physician: Gary Gibbons, MD, FACS; Nurse: Jennifer Hurlow, MSN, GNP-BC, CWCN; Physical Therapist: Scott LaRaus, PT, DPT, CWS; Podiatric Physician: Eric Lullove, DPM, CWS, FACCWS; and Industry: Linda Pruitt, RN, MS, WOCN/ET.

The Association thanked Vickie R. Driver, DPM, MS, FACFAS for her service as President and looks forward to her continued efforts as the Immediate Past President. 

The following recently retired Board Members were gratefully acknowledged: 

Treasurer: Heather Hettrick, PhD, PT, CWS, CLT, CLWT; 2nd Term Nurse: Tod Brindle, MSN, RN, CWOCN; 2nd Term Member-at-Large: Renee Cordrey, PT, PhD(c), MSPT, MPH, CWS; 2nd Term Consumer: Joy Schank, RN, MSN, ANP, CWOCN; and Immediate Past President: Robert J. Snyder, DPM, MSc, CWS. The AAWC commends Dr. Snyder for his 11 years of service on the AAWC Board of Directors. 

An AAWC Membership Meeting will be held at SAWC Fall, October 7–9, 2016 in Las Vegas. 

Patient education brochure debuted at SAWC Spring

The AAWC Public Awareness Task Force released another timely patient education brochure — Win the Battle Against Infection — that provides basic information to help patients and caregivers recognize and prevent infection. The AAWC’s full educational brochure series is available to download at no cost in the AAWC’s online Professional Resources center. Print/distribute the brochures for educational purposes without cost or permission. Avoid printing and assembling the brochures by purchasing quality reprints from https://aawconline.org/store/.

2016 AAWC Distinguished Member honored 

Janice Berger, RN, BSN, MPH, WOCN is the winner of the 2016 AAWC Distinguished Member Award, presented at the AAWC Membership Meeting on April 15. Janice is recognized for outstanding service that will continue to have a lasting, positive impact on AAWC programs, services, processes, leadership engagement, reputation, and finances. Janice has been a dedicated AAWC member since 2009. The AAWC appreciates her commitment as Chair of the Nominating and Board Development Committee and member of the Finance Committee, as well as her past service on the Corporate Advisory Panel.

SAWC Spring 2016 scholarship winners

The AAWC selects members to receive the SAWC Nursing and Physician Scholarships. The scholarships provide members with complimentary conference registration (a $500 value) and recognition during the SAWC Scholarship Ceremony. The complimentary registration is courtesy of HMP Communications, LLC (HMP); other organizations are selected by HMP to choose the winners from other disciplines.

Congratulations to the following 2016 SAWC Spring Scholarship Winners: 

SAWC Nursing Scholarship: Audrey Moyer-Harris, MBA, BSN, RN, CWCN; and

SAWC Physician Scholarship: Latricia Allen, DPM, MPH.

AAWC members interested in a chance to win a SAWC Fall Scholarship must apply by midnight EDT, Monday, May 23, 2016. Winners will be notified before the first SAWC Fall registration discount date of June 17 to enable non winners to register at the best rate (which includes an additional 20% discount for AAWC members).
