Treating a Non-Ischemic Related Lesion in a STEMI Patient
The treatment of acute STEMI has traditionally consisted of revascularization of only the infarction-related artery. Recently there has been a suggestion that treatment of non-ischemic related stenosis is imperative, but this is not usually done in the same setting. The PRAMI Trial questioned this logic, but the controversy continues. In this blog post case from Dr. Heuser and Dr. Hernandez, in a patient with hypotension and ventricular fibrillation that continued after recanalization of the infarct related vessel, the authors felt there was enough circumstantial evidence to warrant treatment of the non-ischemic vessel in the same setting. In this case it could be performed quickly and made a significant clinical improvement in this patient’s recovery.
