The Case For and Against Vascular Closure Devices

The development of vascular closure devices, which close the site of entry for endovascular procedures, has facilitated earlier ambulation for patients and has allowed operators to perform some procedures percutaneously that previously were performed surgically. However, there are cases in which vascular closure devices might not be necessary. In the November 2014 issue of Vascular Disease Management, we present a point-conterpoint argument in which the authors argue for and against the use of vascular closure devices. Dr. Walker discusses this article and the use of vascular closure devices in this video.
