Carbon Dioxide as an Alternative to Iodinated Contrast in Angiographic Imaging

Prior methods of delivering carbon dioxide as a contrast agent for angiographic imaging were cumbersome and difficult to use. New dedicated CO2 angiographic devices are small, easy to use, sterile, and low cost, and they have built-in safety mechanisms to avoid inadvertent injection of large amounts of pressurized CO2 into a patient. Vascular Disease Management clinical editor Craig Walker, MD, discusses an October 2014 issue article by James G. Caridi, MD, FSIR, which details the history and technique for using CO2 as an angiographic contrast agent.
