HammerTube Hammertoe System
The HammerTube™ Hammertoe System offers surgeons four different configurations for use in the stabilization and fixation of small bones for use in bone reconstruction, osteotomy, arthrodesis, fracture repair and fixation, appropriate for the size of the device.
The HammerTube™ is a single piece titanium sprayed polyether ether ketone (PEEK) implant intended for use in proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint fusions. The HammerTube™ implant is constructed from PEEK, a non-reactive biomaterial which closely matches the mechanical properties of the bone. The HammerTube™ implant is coated both proximally and distally with a porous titanium spray to increase mechanical fixation on either side of the joint when compared to uncoated implants.1
The titanium plasma spray creates a greater friction coefficient than uncoated PEEK allowing the implant to resist rotational and pullout forces.
The central portion of the HammerTube™ implant is uncoated allowing it to be cut at the joint space to facilitate removal. In order to streamline removal, dedicated easy-outs and trephines are included in the removal system. Finally, the implant comes sterile packaged in four configurations to address varying patient anatomy and is intended to press fit on either side of the joint space following drilling.
