American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Named Psych Congress 2019 Charitable Partner

Partner in Suicide Prevention Education to Be Honored at Conference in San Diego 

Psych Congress is pleased to announce on World Suicide Prevention Day that our 2019 charitable partner for the upcoming Congress in San Diego is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Established in 1987, AFSP is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

“Over the past year I have had the distinct honor to work closely with the AFSP team as they have joined us across the country as part of our Suicide Prevention 360 initiative educating clinicians to be more competent and confident in assessing suicide risk, implementing safety plans, and counseling at-risk patients and their families,” Psych Congress cochair Rakesh Jain, MD, MPH, said.

“I know I have learned a lot from these experts and believe that the work that they do helps to save lives and bring hope to those who have been affected by suicide.”

Attendees can see Jill Harkavy-Friedman, PhD, Vice President of Research at AFSP, speak at the Oct. 2 Eric C. Arauz Memorial Keynote Address prior to the presentation by Candy Chang. Dr. Harkavy-Friedman, who will also be leading a session at the Suicide Prevention 360 pre-conference earlier that day, will be speaking about the suicide prevention work that AFSP is doing nationwide.
