CIOctober is on the horizon, with the first Tuesday evening session on October 6th focused on liver-directed therapy. The virtual meeting runs from 6-9:45 pm, EST, and all sessions will be available to registered attendees for 3 months after the event concludes on Tuesday, October 27th.
The evening’s program kicks off at 6 pm with a symposium titled, “How to use SIR-Spheres Y-90 Microspheres for a Segmental Ablation in Conjunction with MIM SurePlan Liver Y-90 Voxel Based Dosimetry,” presented by Douglas A. Murrey Jr, MS, MD, Vascular and Interventional Radiologist at Inland Imaging Associates/Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. This complimentary symposium is sponsored by Sirtex.

Other October 6th highlights include:
- Ziv Haskal, MD, FSIR, University of Virginia School of Medicine, presents “Data You Should Know: Most Influential Publications Over the Past Year.” Dr Haskal’s presentation highlights a variety of relevant oncology articles that bear familiarity and close reading. According to Dr Haskel, “I’m going to particularly take a look at journals outside of IR, I’m going to assume we are already reading the IR and IO journals. I’m also going to focus only on HCC; after all, it is the fourth or fifth most common tumor on the planet.” Dr Haskal’s review highlights several momentous articles published over the past year, including the latest research on atezolizumab in combination with approved first-line options, which is notably the first phase 3 randomized controlled trial of immuno-checkpoint inhibition versus sorafenib in HCC.
- Nadine Abi-Jaoudeh, MD, FSIR, CCRP, University of California Irvine, presents "HCC: Year in Review." Dr Abi-Jaoudeh reviews several of the year’s major randomized controlled trials, focusing on early-stage and advanced-stage HCC trials that attendees might not hear about at other meetings.
- Michael Chuong, MD, Miami Cancer Institute, presents "Contemporary Utilization of Liver Radiation." Dr Chuong reviews the basic tenets of radiation therapy. Given that the liver is among the most radiosensitive organs, but is tolerant to high-dose to limited volumes, his presentation examines how radiation oncologists can optimize the tumor dose versus the liver dose to effect local control, but not result in significant risk for severe liver toxicity. Dr Chuong explores this question in the context of recent advances in radiotherapy technology.
All sessions will be available to paid registrants for 3 months after the CIO concludes on October 27th. For more information, including the full meeting agenda, and to register for the meeting, please visit www.theiomeeting.com.
