Other October 20th highlights include:
- Alda Tam, MD, covers the topic of Patient and Lesion Selection for Lung Ablation. “Percutaneous lung ablation is effective and a favorable area for practice building,” notes Dr Tam, “and large patient series support the use of resection or ablation for colorectal cancer patients with lung metastases.” Dr Tam demonstrates the importance of careful preprocedural planning, as well as multidisciplinary consideration for timing of therapy, which may maximize the benefits of lung ablation.
- Matthew R. Callstrom, MD, PhD, presents Thermal Ablation for Musculoskeletal Lesions: How I Do It. Dr Callstrom reviews his case-based approach in terms of how to use displacement to avoid injury; bipolar radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation to avoid articular surfaces; and the utilization of cement and balloons for better outcomes in periacetabular tumor ablation. This presentation also includes a short discussion on femoral nerve anatomy. “The femoral nerve,” states Dr Callstrom, “is probably not well understood in terms of its complex anatomical path.” An imaging series is included to illustrate the anatomy of the femoral nerve and to highlight the importance of respecting the boundary of where the femoral nerve lives.
- This session also includes “Outside Your IO Comfort Zone: Learning from our Saves and Complications.” In this popular feature, Robert Suh, MD, Nishita Kothary, MD, Yolanda Bryce, MD, Steven Yevich, MD, and Edward Kim, MD each share a case that resulted in a valuable teaching moment. Each case is followed by a panel discussion and audience question and answer session.
