The Sherman Prize 2022: Marla Dubinsky, MD
Dr Dubinsky is one of the recipients of the Sherman Prize for 2022, which honors "clinicians, surgeons, researchers, and/or academics with extraordinary track records of achievement who are making exceptional and pioneering contributions that transform inflammatory bowel disease care."
As a pediatric IBD specialist, Dr Dubinsky led the way in using tumor necrosis factor inhibitors in children to improve outcomes and help her young patients get back to having happy childhoods. She has served as principal investigator of the Orthodox Jewish Multiplex family study; participated in developing the CDPATH decision support tool, which helps patients make informed decisions about their care based on their risk of disease progression; and has championed the introduction of bedside intestinal ultrasound for monitoring IBD. With her colleague Laurie Keefer, PhD, Dr Dubinsky has recently launched Trellus Health, which offers online resilience training available online to patients after seeing first-hand how such training can improve patient health and outcomes.
Marla Dubinsky, MD, is chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology; professor of Pediatrics and Medicine; chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition; codirector of the Susan and Leonard Feinstein IBD Clinical Center; and director of the Marie and Barry Lipman IBD Preconception and Pregnancy Planning Clinic at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt Sinai in New York City.
