Hi, my name is Millie Long. I'm at the University of North Carolina. I'm one of the cochairs this year for the Advances in IBD Meeting.
In the first session on Wednesday, I'll be speaking about the management of the hospitalized severe patient with inflammatory bowel disease. During this session, I'll focus on the severe UC patient. We'll talk about various treatment modalities, risk factors for a colectomy, and how we may be able to intervene to help to prevent that outcome.
I'll also provide a very practical algorithm for management that may be useful in your clinical practice.
From a Crohn's disease perspective, we'll focus on managing the patient with an intra-abdominal abscess. This is a complicated situation that often requires multidisciplinary involvement. I'll show you some data surrounding size of the abscess. and other risk factors that will help you to determine the best management protocol.
I will also provide an algorithm that will be hopefully helpful in your clinical practice. For both of these scenarios, the key thing is multidisciplinary involvement of the colorectal surgeon. The surgeon is key to helping to co-manage these patients during hospitalization with IBD.
I'm very hopeful that you'll find this presentation useful for your practice, and look forward to your participation in the AIBD meeting.
