Even Lean Patients May Develop NASH

Metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and its precursor, metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), were called, until recently, nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases.

However, Dr Blanca Lizaolo-Mayo explains, fatty liver doesn't always mean the patient has overweight or obesity. Certain patients may be at risk of MASLD and MASH even if they are at a healthy body mass index. Here she explains what to look for, how to come to a diagnosis, and how to treat MASH and MASLD in patients who have maintained a normal weight.
