Value-Based Outcome Set Proposal for Psoriasis Daily Clinical Practice
A value-based outcome set (VOS) to evaluate psoriasis care in daily practice was developed and published in The Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
Researchers aimed to initiate value-based health care in psoriasis by developing an actional VOS for daily practice using a mixed methods approach consisting of 4 phases. First, a systematic review was conducted that provided an overview of all patient-relevant outcomes found in the literature. Next, the 23 outcomes were presented to a group of patients using a modified nominal group technique and ranked according to importance. Instruments available and suitable to evaluate outcomes were reviewed in the literature. Finally, a pilot feasibility test was performed.
A total of 120 patients participated in the study. Symptom control, treatment efficacy, confidence in care, and control of disease scored as the most important outcomes. Comorbidity control, productivity, and cost of care outcomes scored the least important. A total of 12 instruments were selected to measure the outcomes in this VOS.
“This VOS is a first proposal to evaluate psoriasis care in a value-based manner. Measuring these outcomes can enable us to critically appraise and improve current care processes, within the reality of available resources, thereby increasing value for patients,” concluded the study authors.
