Bibliometric Analysis of Metabolomics Trends in Psoriasis
According to a study published in Heliyon, metabolism-related research assists investigations into targets and interventions within the metabolic processes in psoriasis.
Researchers conducted a bibliometric analysis of publications on metabolomics in psoriasis from 2011 to 2024 to gain insights into the knowledge structure and research trends in this field. A total of 307 articles from 47 countries were analyzed, with notable contributions from the United States and China. The analysis revealed a steady increase in publications over the years, with the Medical University of Bialystok emerging as a leading research institution.
The International Journal of Molecular Sciences and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology were identified as prominent journals in the field, with significant contributions from authors such as Elzbieta Skrzydlewska, Anna Baran, and Iwona Flisiak. Notably, April W. Armstrong received the highest co-citation.
The study highlighted key research foci, including investigating the mechanisms of metabolomics in psoriasis onset and progression, as well as exploring therapeutic strategies. Emerging research hotspots include inflammation, lipid metabolism, biomarkers, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and arthritis.
“Metabolism is expected to be a hot topic in future psoriasis research,” the authors concluded.
