Meeting Update: Cath Lab and Beyond

Keywords

Over 60 cath lab nurses and technologists from Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and California traveled to Sacramento in late September for Cath Lab and Beyond, a 4.5-day educational program designed for staff new to the cath lab setting. This course is sponsored by the Continuing Education Consortium, currently overseen by Dignity Health. The program has been in existence for about 25 years and was initially developed in response to an acute staffing shortage in one of the area hospital’s cath labs. Through the years, the course has grown and attracts staff from near and far. Taught by experienced cath lab and cardiology RNs and technologists, topics reviewed include cardiac anatomy and physiology, multiple cardiac disease processes, hemodynamics and calculations, and diagnostic and interventional coronary, peripheral, and structural heart interventions. Successful completion of the program awards 35 CEUs for RNs as well as radiologic technologists.
