Therapists test benefits of open notes
07/08/2014
About 700 patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are participating in a novel experiment. Within days of a session, they can read their therapists’ notes on their computers or smartphones.
Clinicians hope that such transparency will improve therapeutic trust and communication, however, observers question whether the experiment will backfire. Sharing notes can introduce the risk of misinterpretation by patients, or worse, they might take personal offense to some of the clinicians' observations.
