Miami`s ICFH receives SAMHSA Science and Service Award

Miami — Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH), a non-profit organization that offers prevention and treatment programs for children and families in Miami-Dade County, has announced it has received the prestigious SAMHSA 2010 Science and Service Award. This award recognizes exemplary implementation of evidence-based interventions that have been shown to prevent and/or treat mental illnesses and substance abuse.

ICFH Functional Family Therapy (FFT) program received the award for its evidence-based empirical model designed to accomplish uncovering and developing the unique strengths of the family in a way that enhances the family's self-respect while providing specific ways to improve family functioning. FFT is named to reflect a set of core theoretical principles which represents a primary focus on the family and overriding faithfulness to positive outcomes.

"We are very pleased to receive such a prestigious award," said Robert D. Nolan, PhD, Executive Director of ICFH. "It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff."

The awards program is part of SAMHSA's strategic initiative on the prevention of substance abuse and mental illnesses. Now in its fourth year, this annual award program recognizes public- and private-sector organizations, as well as community-based coalitions, that have worked to improve their communities and the lives of individuals by providing the best services possible.
