Jordan Axelrad, MD: The Sherman Emerging Leader Prize 2024

Dr Axelrad has become a leader in the area of malignancy among patients with IBD, which was recognized with the Sherman Emerging Leader Prize.

Jordan Axelrad, MD, is codirector of the inflammatory bowel disease center at NYU Langone Health and an associate professor of medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

I'm Jordan Axelrad. I'm codirector of the inflammatory bowel disease center at NYU Langone Health and an associate professor of medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. And I'm this year's Sherman Emerging Leader Prize recipient. I'm really honored and touched to receive this designation for my work, not just in patient advocacy, but also for my research and future impact in the field as well. I've done a lot of work looking at the risks of infectious and malignant complications of inflammatory bowel disease, particularly the risk of cancer in patients who are exposed to various therapies for inflammatory bowel disease. I also do a lot of work on C. difficile infections in patients with IBD, and my work was recognized through this prize this year.

I'm also really touched to be awarded with my coawardees, Milly Long and Dermot McGovern, who've also contributed immensely to our field as well.
