At the AIBD annual meeting, Dr Hanauer reviewed the history of treatment for inflammatory bowel disease over the past 40-plus years, from the initial use of sulfasalazine and steroids to today's growing armamentarium of biologics and oral small molecules.

Stephen Hanauer, MD, is the Clifford Joseph Barborka Professor of Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine and medical director of the Digestive Health Center at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
