Screening for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder among college students using the Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-4
Psych Congress 2023
Given the prevalence of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in the United States, the need for accurate screening tools has progressively risen. In order to meet this need, existing screening tools must be re-evaluated to optimize their efficacy. In this survey, we asked participants whether they had previously received an OCD diagnosis. All participants, with and without OCD, were administered the 4th revision of the Obsessive Compulsive Inventory questionnaire (OCI-4), a four-item OCD screening tool used in previous studies. This survey examined the screening utility of a four-item measure of OCD among 710 college students across 3 different universities. Receiver operator characteristic curves suggested that a cut-score of 4.00 optimally balances specificity and sensitivity, consistent with previous research. The internal reliability of the OCI-4 was 0.75, indicating adequate reliability using this four-item measure. The modal score on the OCI-4 was 0.00, and the range was from 0-16 (M = 4.16, SD = 3.65). Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis with OCI-4 as the test variable and OCD diagnosis as the state variable indicated an area under the curve of 0.789 (p
