Implementation of Exercise Reminders to Improve Symptoms of Clinical Depression
Psych Congress 2023
The purpose of this project is to examine the impact of exercise regimens in improving the symptoms of depression. Clinical depression is a mental health illness characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, and numerous physical and emotional symptoms. This condition goes beyond normal mood fluctuations and can remarkably influence an individual’s relationships, daily functioning, and overall well-being. The DNP evidence-based project utilized a pre- and post-design to evaluate the use of the To-Do Reminder application for decreasing depression symptoms. The Patient Health Questionnaire mood scale (PHQ-9) was administered to the project participants to measure their depression scores before and after implementing a moderate exercise regimen through reminders. Purposive sampling, a non-randomized sampling approach, was used to enroll qualified participants. Forty interested participants diagnosed with clinical depression were enrolled at the project site.
