CIS Celebrates 40 Years of Impacting Lives Through Cardiovascular Care

Cardiovascular Institute of the South Press Release

HOUMA, LA – On August 15, Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) will celebrate 40 years of impacting the lives of thousands of patients by providing advanced cardiovascular care.

In 1983, Dr. Craig Walker created a world-class cardiovascular program in Houma, Louisiana, in an area he knew needed it most. He wrote a mission statement that CIS continues to stand firm on today—to provide the highest-quality cardiovascular care available. Over the past 40 years, CIS grew from one clinic to 20, and heart disease mortality rates declined in those areas. This incredible impact on the cardiovascular health of patients has improved thousands of lives and is described by Dr. Walker as “our greatest accomplishment.” Now with nearly 1,200 team members and 60 physicians, CIS continues to treat all forms of cardiovascular disease from head to toe with the latest technology and compassionate care.

Through the years, CIS has pioneered hundreds of new procedures and devices to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. CIS physicians strive to not only use the latest advancements, but to educate and train others in them as well. CIS entered the landscape of virtual care in 2018 with a 24/7 Virtual Care Center in Lafayette, and more recently, CIS opened its Ambulatory Surgery Center in Gray, Louisiana to offer comfortable, cost-effective and innovative outpatient procedures. Through new technology, virtual care, interventional and outpatient procedures, and now national growth, CIS is improving lives and leading the way for advanced care and innovation.

“CIS has truly been my dream realized,” said Dr. Walker. “Our mission is, and always was, to provide our patients the highest-quality cardiovascular care available. Our passion is patient care. It is amazing to see how CIS has grown, and our success would not have been possible without our team, our patients and our supporters. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
