CIS is First in State to Use New Diamondback Exchangeable Series
LAFAYETTE- Dr. Ankur Lodha, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South, is the first in the state, and one of the first in the country, to use the Diamondback 360® Peripheral Orbital Atherectomy System Exchangeable Series in a peripheral intervention to treat peripheral artery disease (PAD). The procedure took place in the catheterization lab at Lafayette General Medical Center.
This system goes a step beyond its predecessor by offering different crown sizes with the same handle to treat and accommodate all vessel sizes and multi-level disease cases. Its cartridges also come in different lengths to support a variety of access points, such as femoral, radial or pedal access. Additionally, the GlideAssist® feature enables the crown to spin at a slower speed, reducing friction to facilitate device tracking and provide easier removal of the device.
“With this new system, physicians now have the increased flexibility to treat different size vessels both above and below the knee in a single procedure,” said Dr. Lodha. “This means we can customize the procedure specifically for each patient, offering more patient benefits and resulting in improved outcomes and quality of life.”
PAD affects as many as 20 million Americans and is a circulatory condition in which narrowed and hardened blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs. Risk factors for PAD include smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a history of heart disease.
