Symptom-Driven Treatment Strategies for Rosacea
Rosacea's clinical manifestations are known to fluctuate over time, demanding vigilant monitoring and adaptable treatment regimens. With a keen focus on the latest research of this chronic and recurrent inflammatory disorder, James Del Rosso, DO, FAOCD, explored myriad management options, including topical ivermectin, topical oxymetazoline, combination therapy, and innovative physical devices in his session, “Managing Rosacea Based on Manifestations,” at Fall Dermatology Week 2023.
Dr Del Rosso is the research director and principal investigator at JDR Dermatology Research, affiliated with Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Vegas, NV. The learning objectives of his presentation included describing the common clinical manifestations of cutaneous rosacea, delving into the underlying pathophysiology of rosacea-prone skin while correlating it with clinical manifestations, elucidating the application of specific treatments for rosacea based on individual clinical presentations, and providing a comprehensive understanding of the rationale behind combination therapy approaches for this skin condition. Attendees gained a holistic understanding of rosacea management during the session.
“The primary diagnostic clinical manifestation of rosacea is persistent facial erythema. which may be intensified intermittently by the episode of vasodilation,” he noted. “Papules and pustules may not be present and are intermittent lesions.”
“Facial erythema of rosacea has multiple underlying causes,” Dr Del Rosso concluded. “Therapies for rosacea may be correlated effectively with individual visible findings. Treatments are often sequential to address different manifestations of rosacea.”
