Ointment Provides Relief For Dry, Cracked Feet

When it comes to rough, dry skin and callus buildup on the feet, a newly reinforced ointment may help provide needed relief.

Kerasal offers a moisturizing foot ointment that is clinically proven and approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), according to the ointment’s manufacturer Alterna LLC. The company says the product is ideal for severely dry, rough feet and cracked heels.

Now Alterna LLC has unveiled the Kerasal Professional Strength ointment, which is only available for sale by podiatrists. The company says the new ointment has extra amounts of urea, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. The new version of the ointment provides a “deep penetrating treatment in a thicker, occlusive, emollient formula,” notes Alterna LLC.

Patients will see the benefits of using this formula in three to seven days, according to Alterna LLC.

Janet Simon, DPM, FACFAS, has been recommending Kerasal ointment to patients for over six years. Within the last year, Dr. Simon began using the Kerasal Professional Strength version in her office.

Dr. Simon recommends the use of Kerasal ointment to her patients daily and they often return to buy more.

“For instance, today one new patient left with a tube and a returning patient purchased two additional tubes — one for her travel supply and one to stay at home,” notes Dr. Simon, who is in private practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Simon says the Kerasal product decreases callus buildup and cracking of the skin, especially the heel areas. She notes these benefits help prevent discomfort and an unsightly appearance during sandal season.

Dr. Simon notes that patients who use Kerasal do not have as much need for mechanical debridement. Accordingly, this saves time and effort for the patients, according to Dr. Simon, a Past President of the New Mexico Podiatric Medical Association.

What types of patients would particularly benefit from using Kerasal?

“Any patient who has areas of hyperkeratotic skin buildup or cracked/fissured skin, “ claims Dr. Simon.

Dr. Simon has found that in comparison to other products of its kind, the Kerasal ointment is not only easier to use, but more cost-effective for patients and podiatrists alike.
